I am an Open \nSource Software and GNU\/Linux advocate, trainer, writer, and speaker. I \nhave been working with Linux and Open Source Software for almost 25 \nyears. I am a strong proponent of and evangelist for the \u201cLinux \nPhilosophy for System Administrators.\u201d I have been in the IT industry \nfor over forty years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.linux-databook.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/DavidBoth_Headshot-Small.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5530\" width=\"187\" height=\"281\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I worked at IBM for 21 years and, while working as a Course \nDevelopment Representative in Boca Raton, FL, in 1981, I wrote the \ntraining course for the first IBM PC. I have taught RHCE classes for Red\n Hat and also worked at MCI Worldcom, Cisco, and the State of North \nCarolina. In most of the places I have&nbsp;worked since leaving IBM in 1995,\n I have taught classes on Linux ranging from Lunch\u2019n\u2019Learns to full five\n day courses. Helping others learn about Linux and open source software \nis one of my great pleasures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I  prefer to purchase the components and build my own computers from \nscratch to ensure that each new computer meets my exacting \nspecifications. My primary workstation is an ASUS TUF X299 motherboard \nand an Intel i9 CPU with 16 cores (32 CPUs) and 64GB of RAM in a \nThermalTake Core X9 case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have written articles for magazines including, Linux Magazine, \nLinux Journal. My article \u201cComplete Kickstart,\u201d co-authored with a \ncolleague at Cisco, was ranked 9th in the Linux Magazine Top Ten Best \nSystem Administration Articles list for 2008. I currently write \nprolifically for <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/opensource.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">OpenSource.com<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.redhat.com\/sysadmin\/\" target=\"_blank\">Enable SysAdmin<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I currently have four books published, \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.both.org\/?page_id=903\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Linux Philosophy for SysAdmins<\/em><\/a>,\u201d and a three-book series, \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.both.org\/?page_id=1183\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Using and Administering Linux: Zero to SysAdmin<\/em><\/a>, a self-study training course in three volumes that was released in late 2019. All of my books are published by <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Apress<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t find what you need here, send me your questions to the email address below.
