The Command Line Interface (CLI)

The command line interface (CLI) provides a very powerful text mode interface for administrators and users. Most of today’s users have been brainwashed into thinking that the Graphical User Interface (GUI) is the only way in which one can interact with a computer.

It is a shame that they may never know the true power of the CLI which eclipses anything that can be done through a GUI — at least insofar as performing system administration tasks is concerned. There are many ways in which the CLI could be used very productively by most end users as well and this section of the DataBook® for Administrators is for administrators and advanced end users who want to take full advantage of the real power available from their Linux computers.
